72 to 3
Posted by Bob | 12:25 AM

Do 72 "enemy" deaths for every 3 of their own give Israel enough of a tactical advantage? Why not go for 100 to 3, 500 to 3, 1,000 to 3?  Keep up the killing long enough & there won't be any "enemy" left to kill, but plenty of your own remaining. That would be a great strategic success.

While my natural sympathies tend to be with Israel, anything but blind support in America is treated as anti-Semitic.  One may not even point out that Israel's conquest by gradual displacement   policies toward Palestinians are how we rid most of  our continent of the indigenous peoples & occupied their lands.     When they resisted, we sent armies & killed them. When they complained but didn't resist, we forced them off their land. They wandered off on the own or we arranged  Trails of Tears for them.

Heaven forbid  if you're a United States President who actually tries to understand the predicament of the Palestinian people, regarding both Israel & their own radical, rocket-shooting  leaders.  Then you're either Jimmy Carter or perhaps  a secret Muslim educated in the fundamentalist  madrassahs of Indonesia .

The Israelis have no land to trade. They also have no deadly, contagious diseases to spread among Palestinians; European  diseases probably rid the territory of the future United States of 75% of Indians before we even began to seriously spread out.

Why does Willard Rmoney keep bigots in his inner campaign circle?
Posted by Jill | 6:28 AM
If Willard Rmoney is elected in November, there's a very good chance that loose-cannon warmonger John Bolton will be Secretary of State. In an unstable world, having a man who supports Michele Bachmann's McCarthyite anti-Muslim witch hunt demonstrates that Rmoney is completely unfit to lead.

Here's what Bolton said about it on Frank Gaffney's radio show (from ThinkProgress):
What I think these members of Congress have done is simply raise the question, to a variety of inspectors general in key agencies, are your departments following their own security clearance guidelines, are they adhering to the standards that presumably everybody who seeks a security clearance should have to go through, are they making special exemptions? What is wrong with raising the question? Why is even asking whether we are living up to our standards a legitimate area of congressional oversight, why has that generated this criticism? I’m just mystified by it.

Because it's triggered by nothing but anti-Muslim hatred, that's why. Because unless there is some reason to believe that particular INDIVIDUALS are involved in terrorist-abetting activity, said individuals are entitled to be left alone. Because as soon as we start targeting entire groups to prove their loyalty, we are no better than Nazis. That's why. And that Bolton can't see that makes his presence in the inner circle of a major party presidential candidate outright terrifying.

So whose button will this guy be wearing, Bachmann's or Perry's?
Posted by Jill | 11:52 AM
Meet your average Republican:
A 24-year-old Oregon man — who told police that he was a “Christian warrior” — has been charged with a hate crime for allegedly firebombing a mosque last November.

Cody Crawford faces 10 to 30 years if convicted of firebombing the Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center, which is about 200 feet from his house. Although his DNA has been connected to the crime scene, Crawford has maintained that he’s “100 percent innocent.”

In an unrelated incident, Crawford had ranted to police about Muslims, according to court documents.

“You look like Obama,” he said to a McMinnville officer in December. “You are a Muslim like him. Jihad goes both ways. Christians can jihad too.”

The documents reveal that Crawford also told authorities that “only Christians could understand him, that he was a Christian warrior that they were persecuting.”

“You will never know the truth about the mosque,” he allegedly said.

The firebombing came just two days after Mohamed Osman Mohamud, who had occasionally attended the mosque, was arrested in connection with a plot to bomb a Christmas tree lighting ceremony Portland.

Mohamud’s plot was reportedly uncovered with help from the Muslim community.

The next time we are attacked -- and we will be -- you can lay the blame at the feet of right-wing nutballs right here at home
Posted by Jill | 7:23 PM
I'm starting to think that another attack is what they want:
Islamic radicals are seizing on protests against a planned Islamic community center near Manhattan's Ground Zero and anti-Muslim rhetoric elsewhere as a propaganda opportunity and are stepping up anti-U.S. chatter and threats on their websites.

One jihadist site vowed to conduct suicide bombings in Florida to avenge a threatened Koran burning, while others predicted an increase in terrorist recruits as a result of such actions.

"By Allah, the wars are heated and you Americans are the ones who…enflamed it," says one such posting. "By Allah you will be the first to taste its flames."

[snip]

A U.S. official on Sunday said the administration was taking the upswing in anti-U.S. chatter seriously. "Terrorists like al-Qaeda and its violent allies are motivated already to try to attack the United States, but when it comes to propaganda, extremists are pure opportunists. They'll use whatever they can," the official said.

Many opponents of the planned Muslim community center say they have no bias against Muslims but that putting the building so close to Ground Zero shows an insensitivity toward the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Controversy over the community center, which will contain a mosque and other facilities, has helped fan anti-Muslim rhetoric in the U.S. far from Lower Manhattan in recent weeks.

Jarret Brachman, director of Cronus Global, a security consulting firm, and author of the book Global Jihadism, said al Qaeda and other groups have long used imagery from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to recruit new members. But the U.S. position has been that those wars are not against Islam and that the U.S. has Muslim allies in the fight.

Anti-Muslim rhetoric in the U.S is different, since jihadists can use Americans' words to make the case that the U.S. is indeed at war with Islam. The violent postings are not just on al Qaeda-linked websites but on prominent, mainstream Muslim chat forums, Mr. Brachman said.

[snark]I can't imagine what would give the Islamic world that the U.S. is anti-Islam:
