Ted Cruz, yesterday:
"It is saddening to see the president today, once again, try to take advantage of this tragic murder to promote an agenda that will do nothing to stop violent crime, but will undermine the constitutional rights of all law-abiding Americans," Cruz said in a statement. "I am committed to working with Sens. Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Marco Rubio, and Jim Inhofe -- and I hope many other colleagues -- to use any procedural means necessary to protect those fundamental rights"...."In any conversation about how to prevent future tragedies such as Sandy Hook, our focus should be on stopping criminals from obtaining guns," Cruz said. "Unfortunately, the Obama Administration has failed to make this a priority -- in 2010, out of more than 15,700 fugitives and felons who tried to illegally purchase a firearm, the Obama Justice Department prosecuted only 44. That is unacceptable."
Someone should perhaps tell Mr. Cruz that Adam Lanza had no criminal record.
Here are some recent shootings od people who were shot and in many cases killed by people who were not "criminals" and were in many cases, "law-abiding gun owners":
Christopher Stanlane, Jr., Age 10, March 24, 2013. "A dad accidentally shot his own son dead as he cleaned his gun in the family's living room, police reported.
Christopher Stanlane, 34, was wiping down the loaded weapon at his home in Fairmont, North Carolina, Sunday when it discharged. The bullet hit his 10-year-old son Christopher Stanlane Jr, who was watching television, in the back of the head."
Unidentified 11-year-old girl, Casa Grande, Arizona, March 28, 2013.
Unidentified 4-year-old girl - Kansas City, MO., January 10, 2013. Authorities say that a young girl was shot in the head in an apparent accident in a south Kansas City home around noon on Thursday. The four-year-old girl, whose name has not been released, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. According to police, the shooting happened in a home near Birchwood Drive and Monroe. A woman was at the home, babysitting four children — all between four and six years of age — in the front room of the house where there was a loaded handgun. “It sounds like the gun was left on some type of chair,” said Sgt. Marissa Barnes of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. “It’s not exactly known what went down. The adult that was in the house, left the room, heard the shot, came back in and the child was injured.” Police say that the injured child was a relative of the woman in charge of her care, but authorities say that they aren’t sure if the other children — who were not injured in the incident — are also related. The name of the woman has not been released.
Tiel Diaz, Age 18. Fairbanks, Alaska, March 25, 2013: "Alaska State Troopers say an 18-year-old woman is in critical condition after being shot in the head at a Fairbanks apartment. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner ( http://is.gd/t8udOK) says an initial investigation indicates Teil Diaz was accidentally shot while visiting the Fairbanks Street apartment Monday afternoon."
Jean Santiago Zambrana, age 25, Orlando, Florida, March 25, 2013: "A 25-year-old woman is expected to recover from a single gunshot wound after her husband accidentally shot her inside their Semoran Boulevard apartment late Monday, police said. John Massallo Acevedo, 23, was standing in the kitchen of his Resort at Lake Frederica apartment about 8 p.m. when he attempted to remove the slide to his 9 mm Glock pistol and it fired. The bullet struck his wife, Jean Santiago Zambrana, in the right arm and entered her abdomen, according to an Orlando Police incident report. Officers found a frantic Massallo Acevedo kneeling next to his wife, applying pressure to the wound with a kitchen towel. He said they had just returned from the gym when he decided to clean the weapon. They found the bullet casing and gun on the floor between the kitchen area and the living room."
Unidentified 12-year-old boy, Orlando Florida, March 22, 2013: "A teenager accidentally shot and killed his 12-year-old brother in their Orlando home on Friday. The 16-year-old boy is the second minor this week to get a hold of a gun ending in a shooting of a child in the Orange County area, according to the Orlando Sentinel on Saturday March 23, 2013. The 12-year-old boy and his older brother were at home in the 9900 block of Portofino Drive when the older boy got a hold of a gun that went off, killing his younger sibling. The boy was pronounced dead within a few hours of being rushed to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children."
That's just a few that I found in about five minutes of Google searches. How many more people are going to be sacrificed so a bunch of delusional mouth-breathers, appalled that there's a black man in the White House, can delude themselves that they can take on the United States government? How many more people are going to be sacrified so these guys can think they know how to handle an AR-15 in a crisis? How many people are going to have to die before these people realize that their "right" also comes with responsibilities?
