The eloquence of women
Posted by Jill | 5:30 AM
Every now and then, I think we need more good progressive women in elected office, just to drive home just how important the issues for which we fight are.

Washington State Republican Rep. Maureen Walsh is a good example of how women can cut through all the bullshit and get to the heart of an issue:

And on the other side of the country, here is Loretta Weinberg, the lioness of the New Jersey State Senate, on marriage equality in New Jersey. Watch it all the way through:

Weinberg has been at the forefront of this issue for a long time. She's a stalwart advocate of progressive values, and as such, she's a thorn in Chris Christie's side. Christie, in the true tough-guy fashion so beloved by the right, a misogynist governor who last year said someone should "take a bat" to Loretta Weinberg and called WFAN morning radio talking head Craig Carton a "whiny girl" in the week before the superbowl, called the vote "good theater". Christie, with his eyes on a 2016 national campaign, plans to veto the bill. Because his religion and his worldview and his hatred of everyone who doesn't believe the same old stores he does, are more important than the full rights of everyone in the state he governs.
