Could be nothing, as we found out with the Chandra Levy murder. But that doesn't mean it should be swept under the rug if Joey the Scar decides to be a candidate for the highest office in the land.

I wonder what made Phil Griffin decide to do this?

Olbermann's back on the air, Worst Persons is back, and all's right with the world. What, Griffin is getting a conscience now? Or is he just turning into the network equivalent of George Steinbrenner, only instead of lusting for the back page of the New York tabloids, he's lusting for the front page of Politico.
MSNBC said Friday that it is suspending “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough for two days after he acknowledged giving eight previously unknown $500 contributions to friends and family members running for state and local offices during his tenure at the network, a violation of parent NBC’s ban on political contributions by employees without specific permission from the network president.
“I recognize that I have a responsibility to honor the guidelines and conditions of my employment, and I regret that I failed to do so in this matter,” Scarborough said in a statement. “I apologize to MSNBC and to anyone who has been negatively affected by my actions,” he said, adding that after he was made aware of some of the contributions, he called MSNBC President Phil Griffin “and agreed with Phil's immediate demand of a two-day suspension without pay.”

Idiot Scarborough, Reagan Lite, Brewed by Stewart!!
I could just spit! I heard this on the radio today while driving around and absolutely couldn't believe it....actually I do believe it; it makes perfect sense somehow, but I also see a nightmare possibility of the American people actually falling for this in the coming years if its packaged correctly! Today in the Daily Beast, Christopher Buckley, quite seriously suggested that Joe Scarborough is the new savior of the Republican Party.
I think he was being serious when he said that Scar has been "hiding" on MSNBC from 6 to 9, weekdays!
Hiding, my ass! Scarborough is the reason that I turned off MSNBC in the mornings, not only for his mysogynistic treatment of Mika Brezezinski , and not only for his bull-headed neo-con attitudes, but because his lack of understanding and knowledge of what hes talking about is staggering. But then, Buckley calls him "Reagan Lite" and says that he likes him because of his book. Well, that's really all you need to run the country, right? Likability and a little knowledge about alot of things?...an opinion and the ability to shoot your mouth off?
I guess that if your last name is Buckley, people take notice when you proclaim the new savior of the dying old elephant, but really, the Bush days are over and its gonna be a good long time before we invite the likes of "Reagan Lite" back into an office that is still reeling from the policies that Reagan heavy put in place!
Speaking of the idiot retard, Scarborough, last night Jon Stewart answered him on the Starbucks issue...yes he did:

Wednesday Big Blue Smurf Blogging: What They Said
First of all, let me state quite clearly that I'm not whining. I have a good job, I like the work, I have awesome co-workers, and in general I'm very happy with it. But it largely eats my life. I'm not one of those Big Name Bloggers who is able to monitor the news and other blogs all day and come up with dozens of incisive posts every day. When I was out of work, no one offered to pay me to blog (though I did come fairly close to one gig), so instead I work for a giant multinational corporation that pays me a good salary.
What this means is that I'm usually not able to pick up on stories and issues that require more thought and preparation than one can reasonably handle between 5 and 6 in the morning.
Today, Former Congressman Dead Girl In Office is having the vapors over the DHS report on right-wing militia groups, screaming that the Obama Administration is "targeting veterans who fought for this country" because the report indicates that returning soldiers facing a crappy job market might be susceptible to the recruiting practices of militias and other such groups.
I'm not a big fan of government surveillance, no matter what letter the officials engaging in it have after their names. The notion of "pre-crime" just seems too, well, Philip K. Dick for my taste.
What bothers me most about the people out there right now talking about arming themselves to the teeth and revolution isn't that they're dissatisfied with the government; it's that their outrage is so highly selective.
I've been told that I'm a hypocrite because I haven't written about the Obama Administration's embrace of Bush-era secrecy and because I've mocked those who are up in arms about this DHS report. But frankly, I would rather link to those who DO have the time to explore these issues in detail, because with perhaps an hour or two at most every day to blog, I can't always do these complex topics justice. Today is one of those times. I am already late leaving the house for work, but before I leave I wanted to link to today's Big Blue Smurf Blogging honoree, Blue Girl, for pointing out that it isn't the left that takes up arms every time we lose elections, and that it wasn't liberals who blew up the Alfred R. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City fourteen years ago this Sunday.
The right likes to mock us for our marches and our puppets and tambourines and the preposterous Free Mumias and the Code Pinkers. God knows those tactics have not exactly been effective. But there's a big difference between marching in the streets to protest peacefully and amassing ever-bigger weaponry while spouting the rhetoric of actual destruction and murder.
And if Joe Scarborough can't tell the difference, he's even dumber than I thought.

Polarizing.
Every now and then I dip my toes for a few minutes into the fetid waters of Morning Joe, just to see what Joe Scarborough has his knickers in a twist about that day. Yesterday he, like the other GOP shills in cable news, was all up in arms about Joe Biden daring to defend the current administration against the attacks of Dick Cheney -- conveniently forgetting that it is simply Bad Form for a former President or Vice President to criticize the current one -- at least for a while. Even George W. Bush, not a man with whom one ordinarily associates the word "decency", had the decency to not take the bait when asked. But Dick Cheney lives in his own little underworld, where he is both king and deity and is subject to no man's laws, nor anyone's idea of being a civilized human being.
But in the world of Joe Scarborough, Barack Obama and Joe Biden are supposed to be like that nice man John Kerry, who "took the high road" when people like -- yes, you guessed -- Joe Scarborough -- were pummelling him into a loss in 2004. In Scar's world, the natural order of things is for Republicans to attack and Democrats to be good little boys and girls and give them their lunch money.
Yesterday Joe Scarborough decided that the fact that wingnuts are frothing at the mouth about an Obama gun ban that the President has never even mentioned, let alone advocated and about socialist re-education camps that the President has never even mentioned, let alone advocated, and about FEMA internment camps that were built by KBR at the behest of George W. Bush, not Barack Obama, combined with a Pew Research poll showing a huge split in support between wingnuts and, say, the rest of the country, means that Obama is the most polarizing president in history -- and implying that this is somehow Obama's fault.
I'd like to hear Scarborough explain why, when it was George W. Bush who contracted with FEMA for camps, and swept up everyone's telephone conversations and internet activity into that room in San Francisco, and put nuns and Quakers on no-fly lists for advocacy against the Iraq War, and had Secret Service visiting college kids who had posters critical of him in their dorm rooms, the black helicopter crowd didn't care, but let a Democrat -- a BLACK Democrat, no less -- get elected, and all of a sudden we are headed towards a socialist communist fascist homosexual feminazi welfare state where only Negroes (sic) will be allowed to have guns.
Scarborough isn't out there like Glenn Back advocating that someone take a shot at the President. No, Glenn Beck isn't either -- at least not in so many words. But it's clear that "We surround them" doesn't mean a Maypole dance.

Krugman Slaps Morning Joe With Truth; Tells Obama to Get on Offensive Before Catastrophe...
In today's New York Times Paul Krugman states some pretty stark realities about the edge we're teetering on:
I think there is a reason that Paul Krugman won the Nobel peace Prize in Economics, so I think I'll go with his view of the stimulus rather than Morning Schmoe's. Its not just that I disagree with Joe or his thuddingly simplistic and narcissistic view of whats happening, it's that we don't really have the luxury of listening to idiots seemingly nostalgic for Reaganomics. We used that up with Bush, and his plans didn't even have some destructive nostalgic past touchstone, unless you want to count the Third Reich.
I don't know if the suits at MSNBC think that its good for ratings to have these people on television every morning to spew simplistic crap, and then have someone like Krugman on to disprove it, but in terms that are maybe hard to understand at the crack o' dawn. I had to watch this a few times myself, but maybe that's just me. I think it would be better for everyone if we didn't have to start with a week of lies and propaganda before we get to the meat of this thing:

Listen to this guy; people are losing their jobs left and right in my area, and those who are secure are not spending. At some point the conservatives have to stop and decide if they want to be contrary or they want to save this country. It's that simple, because Krugman thinks that the package is too small, and that Obama is gonna have to stand up and explain to us in stark terms why it shouldn't be cut anymore...forget the friendly approach to this; we are in a kind of trouble that we can't base on stories of the past.

Would the Obama economic plan, if enacted, ensure that America won’t have its own lost decade? Not necessarily: a number of economists, myself included, think the plan falls short and should be substantially bigger. But the Obama plan would certainly improve our odds. And that’s why the efforts of Republicans to make the plan smaller and less effective — to turn it into little more than another round of Bush-style tax cuts — are so destructive.
So what should Mr. Obama do? Count me among those who think that the president made a big mistake in his initial approach, that his attempts to transcend partisanship ended up empowering politicians who take their marching orders from Rush Limbaugh. What matters now, however, is what he does next.
It’s time for Mr. Obama to go on the offensive. Above all, he must not shy away from pointing out that those who stand in the way of his plan, in the name of a discredited economic philosophy, are putting the nation’s future at risk. The American economy is on the edge of catastrophe, and much of the Republican Party is trying to push it over that edge.

Joe Scarborough Rubber Room watch: The Day After
This morning I'm going to spend some time watching "Morning Joe" to see how The Scar manages to spin last night as good for John McCain.
Perhaps our first indication came at 6:03, when the news crawl under the clip from Obama's speech was about Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
6:09 - Scar refers to Joe Biden as "a real guy", then catches himself and says "Well, Obama's a real guy too...", but his heart isn't in it. And his point has been made.
6:14 - discussion of how the economy grew by 3.3%. Scar says it's because "Wal-Mart and other stores were doing better." David Shuster, looking as if he's been relegated to being the guy who scopes out locations for "Dirtiest Jobs" on the Discovery Channel, reminds him wryly that a weak dollar makes our exports cheaper and more attractive.
6:32 - Logrolling in our time. Scar quotes WaPo's Eugene Robinson, who is also a ubiquitous presence on MSNBC:
6:33 - Hide the children. Peggy Noonan is coming. And Mika quotes from her Column of Unusual Vapidity:
Mika didn't quote that last paragraph, and I don't blame her one bit. I mean, after all, think about who's likely to speak at the Republican National Convention next week. Think about John McCain and his rendition of the Bush Beavis Giggle. Somehow "joy" isn't the word one would associate with this bunch.
7:03 - Buchanan calls last night's acceptance speech "a manly speech." This is followed by the Obligatory Obama is a Wuss remarks. I guess we ought to let these guys enjoy it while they can.
7:07 - Joe Scarborough decides that using the metaphor of "lining the bullets up" and then "firing the gun at John McCain", used in the context of a black nominee, is a good idea. Buchanan, who decries the demise of "White America", is still in manlove, says "More Rambo, less Alan Alda." Scar says "Americans love millionaires."
7:09 - They run John McCain's congratulatory ad. Funny how they don't mention the one that even a Fox affiliate questioned, that contains a frame of Obama speaking in front of a crowd with people holding up letters reading C H A N G E -- except the "C" is darkened out of existence, and the "E" is out of the frame.
7:24 - Mika opines that early reports on the speech had said it wouldn't go on the attack, and wondered if there was a last minute change. Obviously Mika has never heard of the head fake.
7:26 - Chuck Todd, who is usually more sane than this, remarks that chants of "USA!" are unheard of among Democrats. And worse, he says that this is a gesture of patriotism.
7:27 - Joey Scar makes the obligatory "San Francisco Liberals" reference, implying "gays aren't patriotic." Then he refers to "Jews and everybody else." Everyone, presumably, except Muslims.
7:43 - It seems McCain's running mate is not going to be Tim Pawlenty. Scarborough apparently didn't listen to the Clintons' speeches, because he puts out the name of Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. He belittles the notion that a 72-year-old man with cognitive difficulties and three bouts of melanoma needs a running mate who's ready to be preisdent. Scarborough's love of John McCain is so deep he thinks McCain is immortal. Buchanan makes me laugh by saying Mitt Romney is up to the task of debating Joe Biden.
I'll tell you this much: Next Tuesday, when I wake up and don't have a job, I have plenty to do. But I'll tell you one thing I won't be doing -- sitting in front of the TeeVee watching this bunch of nimrods.

All Americans, regardless of race or party, should think of John Lewis bleeding on that Alabama bridge -- and then think of him at Invesco Field, watching a black man accept his party's nomination. Tears are entirely appropriate.

It will take time for people to let it sink in, and decide what they think. And I'll tell you, Mr. Obama left a lot of space for Mr. McCain to play the happy warrior next week. He left the Republicans a big opportunity to wield against him, in contrast, humor, and wit, and even something approximating joy.

7:09 - They run John McCain's congratulatory ad. Funny how they don't mention the one that even a Fox affiliate questioned, that contains a frame of Obama speaking in front of a crowd with people holding up letters reading C H A N G E -- except the "C" is darkened out of existence, and the "E" is out of the frame.
7:24 - Mika opines that early reports on the speech had said it wouldn't go on the attack, and wondered if there was a last minute change. Obviously Mika has never heard of the head fake.
7:26 - Chuck Todd, who is usually more sane than this, remarks that chants of "USA!" are unheard of among Democrats. And worse, he says that this is a gesture of patriotism.
7:27 - Joey Scar makes the obligatory "San Francisco Liberals" reference, implying "gays aren't patriotic." Then he refers to "Jews and everybody else." Everyone, presumably, except Muslims.
7:43 - It seems McCain's running mate is not going to be Tim Pawlenty. Scarborough apparently didn't listen to the Clintons' speeches, because he puts out the name of Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. He belittles the notion that a 72-year-old man with cognitive difficulties and three bouts of melanoma needs a running mate who's ready to be preisdent. Scarborough's love of John McCain is so deep he thinks McCain is immortal. Buchanan makes me laugh by saying Mitt Romney is up to the task of debating Joe Biden.
I'll tell you this much: Next Tuesday, when I wake up and don't have a job, I have plenty to do. But I'll tell you one thing I won't be doing -- sitting in front of the TeeVee watching this bunch of nimrods.

Joe Scarborough is already pissing and moaning about the promotion of Rachel Maddow. Oh, he's not using her name, but earlier this morning he was griping that he got only around fifteen seconds of face time during last night's convention coverage, and claimed it was because he ticked off "a certain person."
It's no secret who that "certain person" is, and why he's holding a grudge:
Grow the hell up, Joe. You were pwn3d, and you know it. You were pwn3d by someone you hate, and you hate her not just because she's gay, out and proud; and not just because she's smarter on her worst day than you on your best; and not just because she made you look like a fool on national television and got your goat. You hate her because she got your old timeslot, and because that liberal blowhard Keith Olbermann has the power at MSNBC, not you. And you hate her because you know that your party's ideology is one epic fail, you hitched your wagon to that fail, and now you look like a fool because Rachel Maddow is smarter than most people and effortlessly can rattle off all the ways your so-called "maverick" has proven to be a craven panderer whose lust for the presidency crawls like poison ivy over every fiber of his being.
Even Tweety has resigned himself to the inevitable, and while he'll never be president of the Rachel Maddow Awesomeness Appreciation Society (because I am), even he (along with everyone else on the MSNBC team) at least recognizes her gift with words after she came up with "post-rational" (which I hope becomes the new "truthiness") to describe the PUMA crazies.
So stamp your widdle feet, Joe, and let Mika and Willie and Mike Barnicle kiss your behind on the air for four hours every morning, and bemoan the fact that the mean old feminist lesbian is keeping you off prime time. And keep thinking that this somehow makes you a big man. I'm going to go make another batch of popcorn and watch over the next two weeks as Rachel mops the floor with you.
