The Woman Who Would Be Senator
Posted by Jill | 9:37 PM
Meet Carly Fiorina, who's running against Barbara Boxer in California:
A consummate self-promoter, Fiorina was busy pontificating on the lecture circuit and posing for magazine covers while her company floundered. She paid herself handsome bonuses and perks while laying off thousands of employees to cut costs. The merger Fiorina orchestrated with Compaq in 2002 was widely seen as a failure. She was ousted in 2005.

THE STAT: HP stock lost half its value during Fiorina’s tenure.

Yup. That's just what California needs -- a Senator who nearly ran a thriving company into the ground.

Well, at least she has always been diligent and hard-working, rarely wasting her time on frivolous activities, like, you know, voting.

(I can hear the objection, "You mean the other important Republican businesswoman running in California, Meg Whitman of E-Bay, the next Governor." No, I mean both. And really, wtf does it matter? A state that is constitutionally unable to pss a budget if a not really huge minority decides not to is completely fucked anyway.)

I'm not going to waste my time dredging up documentation of Ms. Fiorina's whininess and poor decisions(a lot of business people were rooting for her...at first), but no one with a notochord in the SF Bay Area is going to vote for her.

Senator Boxer has been an excellent Senator overall.

(Feinstein v. Fiorina might be a contest, though.)
