And yet another one...

How many more families are going to end up like this:
A father killed his wife and their three children before fatally shooting himself in a northwest Maryland home, leaving a gruesome scene that was discovered Saturday by the youngsters' grandfather, authorities said.

When investigators arrived, the couple's two sons, ages 5 and 4, lay dead in their beds, while the bodies of a 2-year-old daughter and the mother, Francis Billotti Wood, were in the master bedroom of the two-story home, Frederick County sheriff's office spokeswoman Jennifer Bailey said. On the master bedroom floor by the foot of the bed was the father, 34-year-old Christopher Alan Wood, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Bailey said.

The 33-year-old mother and three children suffered "traumatic cuts," Bailey said, but the causes of their deaths weren't immediately confirmed.

The woman's father found them dead around 9 a.m. He had grown concerned after not hearing from them for several days, Bailey said.

Investigators also found a shotgun and other items they believed were used to slash the victims. Several notes were found, but authorities didn't say what was written in them.

No details yet, but my money's on yet another unemployed guy who just couldn't cope.

For decades I was torn by America's overwhelmingly entrenched gun culture - whether it is beneficial or detrimental to society. Let me see:

- Guns available to just about everyone quickly solve tough family problem, as this report demonstrates. So much intractable problems, so quickly and neatly solved. Just like a TV commercial. The magic of guns continue.

- Guns helps the trade deficit. See, Mexicans export untold tons of narcotics to the US, while the US exports untold number of military firearms to the Mexico gangs to kill themselves and the polices. Thousands have died and thousands more will enjoy the same fate. Although the dollar amount of this trade is hugely in Mexico favor, there is a lot more of them dying. That means as more Mexicans die the trade imbalance will self-regulate - a good thing. Only guns work in such magical way.

Come to think of it. We need a stimulus package for more gun production. We need to give them out free of charge to every student, every unemployed person, every person who lost their shirt in Wall Street. And let the magical effect plays out. The result will surely be a grand economic recovery.

I understand male pride but I don't understand taking out your family, co-workers or random strangers on your way out.

This man's wife and children may well have had long and somewhat happy lives, no matter what he was thinking. They could have gone on albeit with a hole in their hearts for the husband/father who couldn't cope.
