Friday Big Blue Smurf Blogging: What They Said
Posted by Jill | 5:08 AM
Today's honoree: Paul Krugman, for pointing out what ought to be obvious: that when you decide to "look forward rather than backward" when official wrongdoing is of the scale of that committed by the Bush Administration, you make a mockery of the entire concept of rule of law.

Money quote:
I’m sorry, but if we don’t have an inquest into what happened during the Bush years — and nearly everyone has taken Mr. Obama’s remarks to mean that we won’t — this means that those who hold power are indeed above the law because they don’t face any consequences if they abuse their power.

[snip]

Meanwhile, about Mr. Obama: while it’s probably in his short-term political interests to forgive and forget, next week he’s going to swear to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.” That’s not a conditional oath to be honored only when it’s convenient.

this will scar him just like it did Ford. i like obama's optimism and refusal to let the past get in the way - i loathe the fact he might let this criminal get away with crimes of the century. i dont know if i will get past that

Mercy must be tempered with justice, and justice with mercy. Too much mercy here, and not enough justice.
