Hurricane Irene Open Thread
Posted by Jill | 2:05 PM
I plan to spend Saturday in my basement, giving it a long-overdue decluttering and cleaning -- getting ready to wet-vac after the power goes out and the pump stops working.

So consider this an open thread. If you are in Irene's path, keep us posted on how you're doing in the comments.

So far today the 9-year old next door has been more disruptive to my neighborhood than Irene. So I give this hurricane a 'meh.'

Winds just started to pick up here about 20 minutes ago after it being dead calm all day. I'm just sending strong healthy energy towards my oak trees and begging them to stay upright...

The basement is clean of all old dust bunnies, dryer lint, and construction debris, and everything that needs to be is up off the floor...so if the power goes out and the pump stops working, the water won't be too disgusting Just hoping we can get through these next 24 hours without any catastrophes.

How are you doing? I'm sending lots of positive energy your way; wish I could do more.

Power stayed on all night, the pump worked like a charm. Power went out around 8 AM, PSE&G says it won't be back up till next Sunday. Meanwhile, our local Patch site isn't even showing our town as being affected. They don't even know we exist, apparently, so who knows when we'll get the power back. We're spending the day putting down towels to absorb the seepage and drying them at the laundromat because we don't have a gas dryer (no gas line coming into the house). It's days like this I wish I was renting.

Wow. A week without power? I'm with skywind: wish I could run an extension cord your way.
