The next phase of Republican grief

The first phase was sadness. Then there was denial, when they decided that the stimulus package was their victory. Now they're into the next phase: Blaming the Jews™ (watch about 1:30 in):




MATTHEWS: We have an economic catastrophe on our hands after the last eight years. We have nobody buying anything, we have nobody selling houses, nobody selling cars, stock prices going through the floor -- You think this is good?

HAYWORTH: No, I'll tell you what was bad: the sneak attack on our economy, the dress rehearsal that was the debacle of IndyBank, when Chuck Schumer helped get that started, and the guy in the background, George Soros, manipulating all the currency. You wanna keep that going? That's what's gone on here. The fact is --

MATTHEWS: You mean the economic situation we face right now is the result of not the administration's policies but -- you mean -- J.D., you talk fast but I don't know what you're talking about. Are you saying that Bush economic policy isn't where we got today? I don't understand what you're talking about. George Soros? What are you talking about? You're not talking about the fiscal and monetary policy of the administration --

On the right, "George Soros" is code for "Twelve Jewish Bankers." For the best perspective I've seen on this, I recommend taking the wayback machine to what the late, great Steve Gilliard wrote in December 2005, in a piece quoting extensively from automobile mogul Henry Ford's book The International Jew. Or you can go to the lunatic fringe to see how Soros is a lightning rod for anti-Semites.

These people who invoke Soros' name every time they want to point fingers of blame about the current state of the economy aren't interested in whatever alleged crooked dealings Soros has had; they probably don't know much about him except that he is a Hungarian Jew with a shitload of money and is therefore by definition part of the mythical Jewish banking cabal about which lunatics have been frothing at the mouth for centuries. They said Soros was behind Air America too, and I can tell you that if Soros were so inept as to be the mastermind behind AAR, he'd be too dumb to be that rich.

I keep being reminded of that old Marc Maron bit from the 1990's that shows up on TV every now and then where he talks about how Jews like to go down into the basement to look at the money, saying "I can't believe we've got it ALL!"

As this economy starts heading further into the crapper, and unfortunately, names like "Madoff" and such are more and more in the news, watch for the name "Soros" to appear more frequently. And listen carefully, because the Protocols of the Elders of Zion aren't going to be far behind.

That's quite a stretch, Jill. I suppose all those criticisms of the dreaded "neocons" (Wolfowitz, Kristol, Podhoretz, et al) was "code" for "sinister Jewish conspiracy hijacking our foreign policy."

I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that you probably weren't captain of your college debating team.

(For that matter, you probably weren't top of the class in punctuation and capitalization either.)
