With all due respect, Senator Obama....yes they are
Posted by Jill | 8:55 AM
This is some good stuff from Obama in Flint, Michigan yesterday:

I'm liking the "They must think you're stupid" meme. It creates a "you and I know what they're doing" community vibe and it provides a linkage between Obama and his audiences. And perhaps "They must think you're stupid" will work better than the third-person "The American people aren't that stupid", which was used by the Kerry campaign in 2004 to explain its refusal to fight the Swift Boat Liars for Horsepuckey. Except there's only one problem: Far too many of the American people ARE that stupid. They believe Obama is a secret Muslim at the same time that they decry his CHRISTIAN ex-pastor. They think John McCain is pro-choice. They think Sarah Palin is just some "hockey mom" from Alaska -- one of them -- instead of a dangerous ideological Christian Dominionist theocrat who's as corrupt as Dick Cheney no matter how "hot" some men think she is.

I'm not sure how you get around that. Maybe this "You and me, buddy" thing will do it, except whoever is making Obama's ads doesn't seem to use it.

Do you think Obama is back up to a pack a day yet?

The new "Not Mavericks" ad that actually contains the work "Lie" is more effective, but let's remember that there are around 25-30% of Americans that ARE stupid and there really is no point trying to change their minds. The only way Obama or any Democrat can win is to get a lot of new people out to the polls to vote Democratic. That requires appealing to the party base, not the funding sources or the media.

I think 25-30% is too low. I mean, McCain has gotten over 40% consistently; which almost half of the US thinks the last 48 years of repub. rule have been just fine and dandy. When you tie that into the fact that newspapers are written at a 3-5 grade level; you get a good feel for America. Americans are a visual people; images and pics rule.
Outside of her looks, for what else could McCain have chosen her? Policy? She has none that we have heard of. Experience? C'mon, get real. Name recognition? Really? National exposure? Nil. I mean, what is left? Looks. I know that sucks to say, but on some level it is working as the recent polls have given their ticket a huge jump. I know some of it is post-con jump, but how much could be related to Palin's policies and/or opinions? (Of course, I am speaking of anyone outside the far-right relig. cons who were for McCain anyway, but are now excited.) The sad truth is that to some a pretty lady who HAS NOT BEEN TRASHED BY THE PRESS LIKE CLINTON and thus is not portrayed as a ball-busting nag of an ex-wife has appeal to the dim-witted Americans among us. And let us face the truth: if nothing else America has more dimwits than any other kind of wit.

Lest we forget: 1/2 of all Americans have BELOW AVERAGE intelligence [IQ!]. And even an "average" intellect today probably isn't sufficient for the "high technology" society we live in.
So the fact that 25% would vote for the elephant were he running and another 15% have honestly decided that McCain is "the man" doesn't surprise me...

I like this "they think you're stupid" theme, too.
