Charlton Heston...From His Cold Dead Hands...
Posted by Melina | 10:05 AM

Look, I know that its not popular to dis Moses and whoever else old Charlie played, and I know that it was all probably due to the early effects of Alzheimers, but this guy has not been good for our society, our kids, and the future of our culture. How's that gun "right" working out for the kids in our inner cities and as we defund education, the economy dips, and people become more and more desperate? Who parlayed the "right" to have a rifle to hunt and maybe for self protection at the beginning of time, into the "right" to have an AK-47 or a hand gun, without having to go through the inconvenience of a waiting period? I'm sorry, but I'm not too sorry that Charlie has found his final resting place. Besides the ravages of Alzheimer's, he was a real weight on the progress that this human society struggles with every day around the world.
Nice of Prezzy Bush to hold his hand tho, even as with the other hand he is working hard all the time to prevent any hope for the cure of this horrible disease....and with one hand he clutches the cold suffering hand that supports the supposed intent of the founders, as he lays waste to any reasonable laws about automatic/semi-automatic guns that might allow the founder's intent to be carried out. Strange how that works, huh?

AK-47's are not legally for sale to civilians in this country. Why are the anti-gun types always so poorly informed about what they wish to regulate? Is it any wonder that the rest of us are mistrustful of their efforts?

not being legally for sale and being able to get the parts...the culture of gun ownership...and the availability of these things are all different things Barry. I said nothing about law...I actually used the word "rights" in quotations...and its the idea and the cultural seepage that I'm writing about, Barry. Even in this liberal bastion (expecially here in humvee land) I know a couple of people who claim to have these hidden somewhere just in case....
What gets me is that you pro-gun types don't seem to get that the perception that we all have a "right" to have a gun for self protection or to shoot food is an idea that has been extrapolated into some sweeping allowance, regardless of the "rights" that it may take away from your neighbors in their quality of life, while you "protect" yourself, putting us all in danger.
Mistrustful? Yeah!...
no one "needs" any sort of automatic or semi-automatic weapon, nor the parts to make them!...not many people actually "need" any weapon at all...and the fact that the pro-gun types think that its an infringement of their "rights" over the rights of the society as a whole to even have mandatory waiting periods, is beyond me....

I see where the right to bear arms is contained in the Constitution. Can you point out the "right" of society to a mandatory waiting period? And does society also have a right to impose a mandatory waiting period for getting an abortion?

Barry,

Why are the anti-gun types always so poorly informed about what they wish to regulate?

Because they are uninformed stupid assholes with no clue whatsoever about freedom or anything even remotely resembling that concept in this galaxy. Especially this stupid c*nt.

Ive always found the *c* word to be the last bastion of bullies and cowards...as indicated when a commenter posts anonymously.
Hey anonymous, you feel like a big man? Because you're not...in order to be worth anyone's time (and this goes for any of you) you really have to at least step away from the senseless name calling and bullying and, using some sort of identification, even if its a handle, explain yourself. Otherwise you make your point of view look weak and stupid...

waiting period for getting an abortion?
And that applies how?
Did I say anything about abortion? What does one thing have to do with another?
You're not implying that killing a person with a gun, accidentally or on purpose...or by a felon or mentally unstable person, is comparable to abortion, are you Barry?
Its not only off the subject and has nothing to do with this, as in the right to privacy and the right to bear arms are two different things, no?
And unless you have had to make any sort of horrible choices such as if to terminate a pregnancy for any number of reasons or put your life in danger, I think you're barking up the wrong tree with me here and now.
And, as far as gun control goes, our ever changing society dictates that we cant do so many of the things that might have seemed appropriate in early America...and its really rich that conservatives glom onto issues that don't even apply....like, if states and the government decide that its safer to have a waiting period because people get killed by crazy people who should not have guns...if it helps put guns in the right hands (if that exists) then what is your problem with it?
Why does anyone who is not appropriately licensed NEED access to parts and kits to automate guns?
Its no different than getting a drivers license or learning how to climb a rock climbing wall...you go through a certain amount of training and the people who license you and sell you equipment should be looking at your overall fitness to do any of these things safely in society.
Hell, my friend who is a tree guy says that the public cant buy professional tree equipt. without a licensed contractor overseeing them. Thats for the safety of society...
I suppose you feel that seatbelt and carseat laws are an infringement on your rights too...

nevermind.
