I'm still waiting to find out more about the motives about Jared Lee Loughner and about the "person of interest" sought by authorities in Arizona. But here's a tour around what some of my peeps in Blogtopia (™
Skippy) are saying:
Violet Socks thinks that
Loughner's rants mean he wasn't even capable of functioning at a level to put together Sarah Palin's target poster and a personal action.
John Amato notes how Fox News cut away from a vigil for Rep. Giffords at the mere mention of Snowflake Snooki. (Trivial coda: It sounds like
perhaps TLC is not as loyal to Mrs. Palin as Fox News is.)
Progressive Alaska on
the scrubbing of the infamous poster from the SarahPac page. There's a case to be made that if one has nothing to do with the other, why the need to take it down?
A commendably restrained Keith Olbermann notes that it's time to knock off the gun rhetoric:
The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence has
a handy list of insurrectionist and eliminationist rhetoric from the right over just the last two years. Keep this on hand for when your wingnut in-laws say, "The left does it too." (Yes, the left used to do it -- in the late 1960's. But Abbie Hoffman was never embraced by mainstream Democrats and NO ONE embraced the Symbionese Liberation Army. And today not one mainstream politician is embracing A.N.S.W.E.R. So there.)
Digby quotes the last Democratic president who was loathed to the same degree this one is by the right, after the Oklahoma City bombing.
Laffy shows how right out of the gate in 2008, Sarah Palin wasn't above inciting her frothing minions.
Southern Beale asks, "How are those 2nd amendment remedies workin' for ya?
DCap on why
it's NOT premature to consider the impact of the kind of violent rhetoric we've seen on the right.
Driftglass --
as only Drifty can do.
This post is before the shootings, but
this piece by Dave Johnson on the attacks on public employees made me wonder if soon we're going to see nutballs shooting firemen. The eliminationist rhetoric about public employee unions isn't all that different. Chris Christie, take note: If someone takes a shot at a fireman or teacher, we're going to blame you.
That's all for now.
