"Torture... good! Truth... bad!"

This kinda makes you wonder what they've known all these years.

When will Republicans learn that we Americans are too stubbornly lazy, complacent and unwilling to relinquish our lifestyle to allow their fear-mongering to work? And what makes them think that Attorney General Eric Holder gives a flaming rat's ass what they think about him doing his job and appointing a special prosecutor to look into CIA torture?

Even Dick Cheney's shouting "Go fuck yourself, Obama!" from his spider hole beneath the Everett Dirkson Senate Office building. Here's what Cheney actually said after burping up the metacarpal bone of an Iraqi toddler:
The people involved deserve our gratitude. They do not deserve to be the targets of political investigations or prosecutions... President Obama's decision to allow the Justice Department to investigate and possibly prosecute CIA personnel, and his decision to remove authority for interrogation from the CIA to the White House, serves as a reminder, if any were needed, of why so many Americans have doubts about this Administration's ability to be responsible for our nation's security... The activities of the CIA in carrying out the policies of the Bush Administration were directly responsible for defeating all efforts by al Qaeda to launch further mass casualty attacks against the United States."

"Gratitude," he says. We're supposed to show our gratitude for the CIA ignoring a federal ban on mock executions, running drills near detainees' heads, threatening to kill their wives and children and raping their mothers, then destroying the evidence. And this, according to Cheney, was in keeping with "the policies of the Bush Administration." If there was any doubt that Cheney is completely, irretrievably insane, this is your "smoking gun", people.

Also in support of torture were the usual suspects who sent a strongly-worded letter to the Attorney General:
The letter was sent to Holder by Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl of Arizona, Sen. Kit Bond (R-Missouri), vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama), ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and was also signed by Sens. Richard Burr (R-North Carolina), Saxby Chambliss (R-Georgia), Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).

In other words, nine of the craziest, shithouse-rat-on-fire Republicans in the entire Senate. Yep, Holder's probably laughing his ass off reading their letter and if I was there, I'd gladly wipe the man's eyes.
