The End of Civilization As We Know It
Posted by Jill | 7:44 PM
Marc Maron has succumbed to the siren song of Twitter.

I am now the only one on earth who hasn't.

Its all research to me...but I must say that as I go through and cut down those tweets which dont interest me, I am again left with just the tech podcast guys who are reporting on whats happening in that world (and I have to admit that there is now a chicken subculture that I am catching up with)....the rest is really just the pandering and positioning of Schuster and Gregory about whats gonna be on or how their hair looks....Twitter is at best a big commercial full of links that you're supposed to go to, and at worst a narcissistic playground for folks who want to tell you that they just picked their nose.
I can see a use for it if, say, my son and his friends all got in a little group together and could keep an ongoing conversation. but it really has to do with being in a group of people that you perhaps know in real life and all of them realizing that what you had for lunch doesnt matter unless you are all foodies;-)

I am, however, very proud of Jill for putting the share code in the template...I just noticed that! I find that to be indispensable right now as far as sharing with my little group on facebook.

I am on twitter as cocosandy or I think Melina celeste....I dunno...I have followers but I don't really know who they are, and I keep cutting the folks I'm following down. Its really important to carefully select people who are into something that interests you fully.
It is very seldom that I tweet because I don't think that all these strangers need to know about me, except if Ive written something; then you're back tot hat sending out links...which is annoying.

Its interesting as an evolving technology...and in its reflection on our culture and our need to keep our contacts smaller and smaller...but I do think that its gonna fade into something else...

what was it? the flutter, which is shorter. Thats like a RIPCoco nightmare! 140 characters is already a disaster for me!
I do like twitpics though, in which you take photos with your cellphone and send them to your stream, facebook page, or best of all, to a little window on your blog. Thats interesting if you ever go anywhere or do anything.
DCap could make a nice twitpic stream, there in the middle of the action...but he could also lose his job too, I suppose;-)

I removed a blog from my sidebar for adding the Twitter widget to its sidebar. Twitter is good for haiku, not easy to go over 140 characters in a haiku. Twitter - like the cellphone - creates more distances than it closes. "oh wow a guy was just hit and run by a car and theres nobody here but me stand by for the photo"
