Someone please ask John McCain if he supports this

Yes, please do. Ask Senator John Sidney War Hero and Bush Fellater if he supports refusing to allow wounded Iraq veterans to register to vote if they are in VA hospitals:

On the same day the Pentagon's commander in Iraq told the Senate that new troop withdrawals could not considered for months, Secretary of Veterans Affairs James B. Peake told two Democratic senators that his department will not help injured veterans at VA facilities to register to vote before the 2008 election.

"VA remains opposed to becoming a voter registration agency pursuant to the National Voter Registration Act, as this designation would divert substantial resources from our primary mission," Peake said in an April 8 letter to Sens. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and John Kerry, D-Mass. He was referring to a 1993 federal law that allows government agencies to host voter registration efforts.

My guess is that Senator John Sidney War Hero and Bush Fellater fully supports Peake on this, given that those serving in Iraq are not exactly thrilled with the prospect of yet another president attempting to resolve his issues with his father using the blood of American kids.

Minor detail. They can register to vote if they are in the VA Hospital. They just can't do it in the hospital; they have to get someone to take them to where they can register.

The actuality, in which I most certainly do not defend the VA, is that people wanted the VA to provide registration forms to vets, just as the drivers' license bureau does in California. The VA regarded that as "partisan political activity," which is prohibited in VA property, and said no.

Since the forms would have allowed registration in all parties, I fail to see how it is "partisan" and I think the VA is entirely wrong on this issue.

What remains unresolved, I think, is what would happen if voter a registratrion group wanted to come into the VA hospital to register vets.

i keep having that film of hitler leaving the bunker at the very end of the war where he goes to greet the soldiers --- who are like 12 years old, because that is all that is left to fight..
