They gladly prosecuted anti-government speech [would doubtless have wiretapped had there been wires to tap], they happily -- and openly -- avoided taxes/tariffs, while just as happily smuggling from the "hated" Yankees. They actively draft dodged. They expoused a serious "class" system based on land ownership.
The government confiscated property -- especially from "Yankee lovers" -- at will. "For the war effort" of course, but still...
In short, they sound like true and loyal modern day Republicans. So it probably is the Floridian heritage. And judging by their recent voting behaviors, they are obviously proud of it and want to preserve it...
Considering the recent poll that showed how few "under 20's" know history, I really doubt that anyone really knows -- and certainly doesn't care -- what the CSA or KKK was. Many of the kids today probably think they're rock bands!!! And wonder how to download their MP3's..
I doubt the Seminole, et al, would want it back unless it were returned to its original condition. Who wants a toxic waste dump??
