Whatever happened to the anthrax investigation, anyway?
Posted by Jill | 7:04 AM

And why on earth would anyone want to threaten Sam Champion? Aside from the fact that the Handsome Weatherman looks like he's had some not-great plastic surgery, what on earth could someone's beef with him possibly be?

A portion of a sixth-floor ABC News office housing "Good Morning America" was closed down for five hours Friday afternoon after an employee found a letter containing an unidentified white powder.

A portion of a floor in the building at 147 Columbus Ave. was shut down after 1 p.m. when the unnamed employee found the letter. Addressed to "Good Morning America" weatherman Sam Champion, the letter mentioned anthrax.

The area was sealed off, with employees still there, as police and hazardous-material specialists scoured the area and worked to identify the suspicious substance that had been sent with the letter. Initial tests on the substance were negative for anthrax, and the all-clear was given to return around 6 p.m.

ABC News said police were questioning a "person of interest" in connection with the case. The news organization said that "Good Morning America" operations would resume Friday and continue throughout the weekend. Even though tests for anthrax came back negative, the area would be thoroughly cleaned.

Actually, it's not as ridiculous as it sounds. New York is due to have two hot days this week, and who knows what kind of offhand remarks Champion may have made about global warming.

The "politicization of weather" is one of Wingnuttia's latest pet grievances. The flat-earthers specifically target their ire at the Weather Channel.

Here's what El Rushbo had to say about the Weather Channel being a subversive commie liberal media outlet in January of this year:

They've turned it now into a political cable channel with this mess. “Many of you have accused me and the Weather Channel of taking a political position on global warming. It's not our intention.” Who cares about your intentions, the result is that you have. The reality is you've taken a political position because this is a political issue. It has not been settled by science. Our goal at the Weather Channel has always been to keep people out of harm's way. How you gonna keep 'em out of harm's way on global warming? There's nothing we can do about it. That's the big little secret, there's nothing we can do about it, and even some of these global warming scientists have been saying for 20 years, “It's too late! It's too late!” Who's to say if it is warming, manmade or not, that it's all bad?

But still -- why Sam Champion? Of course no one ever accused these folks of having a large amount of grey matter, so it would not surprise me if some nut couldn't tell the difference between one weatherbot and another.
